P0232: Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit High

HighPowertrainDIY: Advanced

Can you still drive? Drive with caution and get it repaired soon. A stuck fuel pump relay can drain your battery when parked and may create a fire risk from excessive fuel pressure.

What Does P0232 Mean?

Code P0232 means the voltage in the fuel pump secondary circuit is higher than the expected maximum. This can occur when the fuel pump relay is stuck closed, keeping the pump powered at all times, or there is a short to battery voltage in the pump wiring. A constantly running fuel pump can cause excessive fuel pressure.

An OBD-II scanner lets you read and clear diagnostic trouble codes from your vehicle's computer. Most scanners work with any car made after 1996.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a stuck relay drain my battery?

Yes, if the fuel pump relay is stuck closed, the fuel pump will run continuously even when the vehicle is off, which will drain the battery and can also be a fire hazard.

What is a fuel pump driver module?

Some vehicles use a fuel pump driver module to control pump speed based on demand. A faulty module can send too much voltage to the pump, triggering P0232.
