Step-by-Step Instructions
Turn off the ignition and all electrical accessories. Locate the battery in the engine bay or trunk.
Disconnect the negative (black) battery cable first using a wrench, then disconnect the positive (red) cable.
Remove the battery hold-down clamp or bracket.
Lift the old battery out carefully — batteries are heavy (30-50 lbs).
Clean the battery tray and cable terminals with a wire brush to remove any corrosion.
Place the new battery in the tray and secure it with the hold-down clamp.
Connect the positive (red) cable first, then the negative (black) cable. Apply anti-corrosion spray to both terminals.
Tips & Warnings
- Always disconnect the negative terminal first and reconnect it last to avoid short circuits.
- You may need to reset your clock, radio presets, and window auto-up/down functions after battery replacement.
- Have your alternator tested if batteries keep dying prematurely — a failing alternator can kill a new battery.
- Bring the old battery to an auto parts store for free recycling and a possible core charge refund.
