C0050: Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction

HighChassisDIY: Moderate

Can you still drive? Yes, standard brakes function normally. ABS will not work on the left rear wheel. Drive conservatively in poor conditions.

What Does C0050 Mean?

Code C0050 indicates that the ABS control module has detected a problem with the left rear wheel speed sensor circuit. Rear wheel speed sensors are particularly prone to damage from road debris, water, and salt exposure. Without a valid signal, ABS and stability control cannot properly modulate that wheel.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2026 F-150, 2022-2026 F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, F-550 SD, Maverick, 2024-2026 Ranger, 2023-2026 F-600 SD, 2022-2027 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, and 2026 E-Transit vehicles. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Remedy: The integrated trailer module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Frequently Asked Questions

Why are rear wheel speed sensors more prone to failure?

Rear sensors are more exposed to road debris, water spray, and salt. Their wiring also runs along the suspension where it can be snagged or chafed.

Can I replace the rear wheel speed sensor myself?

Yes, rear wheel speed sensors are a moderate DIY job. Most bolt onto the knuckle or hub and require basic hand tools. The main challenge is freeing corroded fasteners.
